ABOUT Alice*
When Alice* first arrived at the SHE Rescue Home, she carried the weight of past abuses but was determined to rebuild her life. She was sexual exploited by someone claiming to help her family. She was scared to report what was happening as her perpetrator was supporting her family with vital food and money. She finally shared what was happening to her with her family and they went straight to the police. Her perpetrator was arrested, tried and found guilty. However, she was struggling to feel safe and came to the SHE Rescue Home for time to heal.
With the support of counselling, education, and a safe community, she began taking steps toward independence. She has studied English with a tutor and has built friendships with the other girls. She finds joy in their Sunday afternoons when everyone was together at the SHE Rescue Home. One of her biggest achievements was starting vocational training at a salon, where she got to start hairdressing and envision a future in the beauty industry.
In the 2 years she was in the SHE Rescue Home, Alice’s* large family went from living in an open shelter without proper rooms to a new home was built for them with funds raised by sponsors, providing much-needed security. Alongside this, her family received food support, easing some of their daily struggles. These changes gave Alice* peace of mind and strengthened her connection to her 3 siblings and parents.
In January 2025, Alice* reintegrated into the SHE Transition Home, a semi-independent living space designed to help young women adjust to life beyond the SHE Rescue Home. This move marked a major milestone, symbolizing her readiness to take on more responsibility while still receiving guidance. She worked hard, saved money from her vocational training, and was able to purchase her own motorbike—an incredible achievement that gave her newfound freedom and independence.
However, as she navigates this new chapter, she continues to face challenges. She still requires counselling support and has made some unwise decisions when forming online connections through social media. The SHE team is actively working with her to provide guidance, ensuring she remains focused on her well-being and long-term goals.
Alice’s* story is one of courage and perseverance. While she continues to grow and learn, her journey is a testament to the power of support, resilience, and the hope of a brighter future.
