A year of hibernation BUT we haven’t been asleep!

Some of our initiatives have had to pause as we physically can’t do them.

We haven’t been able to visit families outside of Phnom Penh (about 95% of our families) so our family visit program is in hibernation.

Schools and vocational programs are closed so our Transition Home is in hibernation as the girls have gone home to the provinces (except one girl who has moved into the SHE Rescue Home).

Without conferences and events our armband orders have stopped so part of our HER (Home Employment Response) Initiative is in hibernation.

But we have not been asleep!

This season has tested our resolve and current programs but we have found that we were already set up to provide the best care and advantages possible for the girls rescued out of human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Our reintegration program has been tested as we can’t visit families in person. The relationships we had already built with families, village chiefs, local organisations and neighbours has allowed us to know how our families are coping with the restrictions, loss of work and their health throughout this pandemic. We have essential relationships and resources in local communities that can help families when they are struggling.

When the schools closed, the classroom in our SHE Rescue Home went from being a room to expand the education provided to the girls in our care (with English and computer classes) to essential in providing basic education and schooling to the girls in our care.

All of our donations were needed to keep the SHE Rescue Home running so we were going to need to close the SHE Sewing Centre as it was still costing us about $10,000 a year to run. However, we already had supporters who decided that wasn’t an option and they have taken over the responsibility and the running of the sewing centre with the same staff, vision and desire to end human trafficking.

And on top of all that we have expanded our influence around our offices in Brisbane to help over 400 people and families who needed groceries, furniture, clothing and counselling.

As we draw close to the middle of the year, we are asking for your support as we prepare for programs to wake up and run again at full capacity once Cambodia lifts its restrictions.

We need $40,000 a month to run our core programs at their full capacity in Cambodia providing essential care and safety to children rescued from human trafficking and sexual exploitation

It is an additional $20,000 a month to keep our Transition Home, Community Based Care and HER Initiative.

For our Australian Partners – HAPPY EOFY!!
