Justice for Panha*

Panha* (14) was rescued 2 years ago on the border between Thailand and Cambodia. Her mother had found work in Thailand and wanted Panha* to visit her. She arrange for a service to help Panha* across the border but it turned out to be a front for human traffickers. Panha* was found injured and abandoned on the border by friendly strangers who helped her recover and tell her story to the local police. For the past 2 years Panha* has testified multiple time in a Thai court as the case kept being delayed and restarted. She was originally meant to testify in person but the pandemic prevented her from traveling to Thailand and she ended up testifying via video link. It has been a stressful and traumatic two years reliving her abuse but her perpetrators have finally been convicted!

We are so proud of her determination to testify and glad that a Thai court agree - what happened to her is NOT OK!

Panha’s* story is not unique. Kanya (19) whose court case has been going for over 3 years with no end in sight. The court case has been cancelled and reopened several times. She has already testified twice during the proceedings and is anxious for a guilty verdict. The waiting and inaction from the courts has been very disheartening for her. Just last month they reopened her case again for a verdict. We are hoping this part of her journey will finally be over with a guilty conviction against her perpetrators.

Court cases are expensive with legal fees, court fees, staffing support, counselling support, travel expenses and so many other unforeseen expenses. Many girls in Cambodia don’t receive justice because they cannot afford it. Your donations go towards providing justice for girls like Panha* and Kanya*.
