Girls and families in the our initiative

Oftentimes poverty leads to the on going risks of exploitation and realities of human trafficking.

All it takes is a parent becoming sick, unable to work and pay for their medical bills for loan sharks and human traffickers to take advantage of the situation and loan families money and exorbitant interest rates that are impossible to pay.

To come against this cycle, the HER Initiative was born to provide safe dignified employment at home where mothers could work around the needs of their children and reintegrated girls over the age of 15 from the SHE Rescue Home can work around the schooling.

The families involved in the initiative come in all shapes and sizes. We have mothers, aunts, fathers, cousins, older siblings involved in the initiative, anyone who is going to be supporting a girl from our SHE Rescue Home when she reintegrated can be a part of HER! This program breaks the cycle of poverty that put these girls at risk of being trafficked or sexually exploited and creates financial stability and freedom for the families who provide a safe home for these brave survivors.

Opportunities we provide

Every girl or family who joins the HER Initiative is given training on the products they can make in their home. There are 2 different kinds of products:

  1. Products made with a sewing machine

  2. Products made without a sewing machine

Families general choose the product type that suits them the best. For example if the family doesn’t have access to electricity they would make the products that don’t need a sewing machine like our jewellery range and armbands. For families who choose to learn the sewing skills we provide the necessary sewing machines.

Along with vocational training for everyone who joins the initiative we provide financial planning and have no interest loans available to help cover emergencies.

Some families use the initiative to supplement income, as a full wage while working at home supervising children or as a safe after school job. We pay families for every product they make as opposed too specific set hours of labour to ensure the program is flexible for everyone. The support provided to girls and their families is life changing!
