ABOUT SOPHORN*

Sophorn*’s family trusted someone who appeared to be helping them, but who used this access to harm her. Over several months, he sexually exploited Sophorn* and threatened her with violence, while providing gifts and essential items to the family. This is a common tactic used by traffickers and those who exploit children to gain trust and control.

Sophorn* eventually found the courage to tell her parents what had been happening. They reported the crimes to the police, and the perpetrator was arrested. He is currently awaiting trial. Fearing that her daughter would not be safe at home, Sophorn*’s mother reached out for support.

Sophorn* came to the SHE Rescue Home just before Christmas and was able to join in the celebrations with the other girls in the home. This helped her create positive memories and begin forming new friendships. She has loved the trampoline and the playground at the home.

Sophorn’s* FAMILY

Sophorn* is the youngest of three children. Her sister is married and lives in another village, while her brother is twelve years old and completing his final year of primary school. Sophorn*’s mother is the sole provider for the family and works as a cleaner at a local factory. Her father struggles with mental health challenges and substance dependence.

Our social workers are working closely with the family to provide support, address trauma, and help create a more stable future for Sophorn*.

Sophorn’S* FUTURE

Sophorn* dreams of becoming a police officer so she can help protect other girls like herself. She understands the importance of education and will be starting at a new school in the coming year. Sophorn* will remain at the SHE Rescue Home while her court case is ongoing and until she feels strong and safe to move into the next season of her life.

During this time, she will receive ongoing counselling to help her heal and develop healthy coping skills. We will also continue supporting her family so they can build financial stability and access the care they need.
