ABOUT Reaksa*

While Reaksa’s* parents went to a wedding in another village, they left their children with someone they thought they could trust. The abuse continued after the weekend until her mother noticed her daughter had changed and seemed upset. She eventually told her mother what was happening in their community and her family reported the abuse to the police. In order to keep her safe her parents wanted her to go to a safe haven while she heals and perpetrators are arrested.

Reaksa* was welcomed into the SHE Rescue Home with her favourite soup – Korko (vegetable and fish soup). It is a really popular dish in Cambodia and the other girls in the home were glad to be feasting together.

Reaksa* likes doing house work and spending time with her brother and sister. She enjoys playing soccer and reading books. She wants to be a teacher but is worried about completing school. We will support her in her education while she studies and explores her options.

Reaksa’s* FAMILY

Reaksa* lived with her family in the provinces including her grandparents. Her father is a Tuk Tuk driver and her mother is a vegetable grocer in the local community. She is the oldest of 3 siblings with a younger old brother and a baby sister who is still a toddler.

Reaksa’S* FUTURE

Reaksa* will live in the SHE Rescue Home while her court case is ongoing and attend school to help her explore her options for the future. Her counsellor will work with her to make sure she has all the support she needs to heal. Her social worker will work with her family to ensure there is a safe place for her to reintegrate (the family have a beautiful home but the community response to the abuse is still unclear). We will be working towards a safe and stable reintegration for Reaksa* into a thriving future. *names changed for privacy
