ABOUT Elisabeth*

Elisabeth* was courted and groomed by a man she met online. She thought he cared about her and he gave her lots of money and gifts. After a couple of months, he was threatening and blackmailing her but when she refused to do as he asked, he shared explicit images of her to her family and community. Her community blame her and her family are ashamed due to cultural beliefs about a girl’s value and virginity. She was in danger from the perpetrator and the community as well as the shame from her family. She came to the SHE Rescue Home to be safe while the court case goes on and will stay with us while she heals from her trauma. Our social workers will be working with her family educating them grooming and hopefully end the victim blaming and shame.

Elisabeth* was welcomed to the home with her favourite food - Khmer sour soup (which happens to be a favourite of most of the girls in the home so everyone was very happy). She enjoys playing soccer and reading. She wants to become a lawyer in the future.

Elisabeth’S* FAMILY

Elisabeth* is the youngest of her 4 siblings. Her older siblings are either married or at university in the city making her the only one still living at home. All her siblings still live in the same community with her parents. Her parents are farmers and weave the raw materials they grow into mats for sale. Her father is very angry and especially struggling with how she is being perceived in the community. Both of her parents are open to working with us to make sure their home is a safe place for Elisabeth* in the future.

elisabeth’S* FUTURE

Elisabeth* will stay at the SHE Rescue Home while she heals and her until her court case is finished. As she wants to be a lawyer, we are currently looking at schooling options to help her get the qualifications and grades she will need for university. Her counsellor will make sure she has all the support she needs to heal and her social worker will work with her family to ensure their home is a safe option for future reintegration.
