Khmer Traditional Dancer
WELCOMED TO SHE
THINGS SHE LIKES TO DO
Going to school and learning
When I came into Community Based Care I was 11 years old. The community care program heard about my story from a friend who was being helped by a partner organisation. I am currently living with my family, am in grade 5 and when I grow up I want to become a Khmer traditional dancer!
I live with my Mother, Stepfather, 2 brothers and sister. Both my parent’s only work occasionally, so we have little money. I really love going to school and learning but my mother was planning to pull me out of school because it is a long way to walk and with a low income, she would like me to work to help the rest of the family. My neighbours have been concerned about my welfare, but I really love my family and want to stay with them.
I will stay with my family, but a social worker and counsellor will watch over me closely. They will also help make it possible for me to continue in school providing the resources I need. If my situation with my family does not improve or gets worse and the local authorities decide it unsafe to stay there, I might move into the SHE Rescue Home.
