SOKHA’S* REINTEGRATION STORY
Sokha* arrived to the SHE Rescue Home on March 29, 2016 a girl in need of great healing and hope. She arrived into our care pregnant as a result of sexual exploitation, and was in the middle of her court process. Thankfully, during her time with us, she gave birth to a healthy baby girl and her perpetrator was sentenced to two years in prison.
While in our care, we were able to work closely with Sokha* as she navigated all things motherhood and what that meant for her and her baby. She learned quickly and became a beautiful mother exemplifying great parenting skills, showing great motivation to provide for her family. She successfully completed a vocational training program where she learned to sew, and today has the skill-set to be a successful tailor in her community!
Emotionally and physically her and her daughter are healthy and doing phenomenally. Her community is a safe place for her, her perpetrator is in jail, and they will be reintegrated back into her community with her parents. She will obtain safe and sustainable employment through our Home Employment Response (HER) Initiative, and we will support her to build a sewing shop in her community!
To celebrate how far she’s come we celebrated the lives of her and her daughter as they prepared to leave the home and successfully reintegrate back into community. Her party was filled with food, games, and gifts to send her off feeling loved, supported, and properly equipped to take on her future! Through tears she shared of her gratitude for her time in the SHE Rescue Home, and we were able to properly acknowledge and honor her admirable journey!
We’re so proud of Sokha* and will continue walking alongside her and her daughter on their journey as they settle into their new season. Her social workers and counsellors will continue checking in on her, and we’re confident it’s going to be a phenomenal season seeing her and her daughter build a life of freedom, independence, love for one another, and joy as they step back into community.
From all of us, thank you for investing in their lives and for playing a part in writing this story of great healing and hope. We’re so proud of Sokha* and how far she’s come and we could not do this without you!
