mILESTONES FOR HER TIME IN THE HOME
Sotheavy* arrived at the SHE Rescue Home at the start of 2018 after her mother discovered she was being sexually exploited by people in her community. Sotheavy’s* mother reported the perpetrator to authorities. As the perpetrator tried to commit suicide he has been in hospital and the court case is still ongoing. We are going to continue to support her through this court process and hope to have a conviction soon.
As her mother is her biggest champion, it has been hard for her to be so far away from her family, as such, she has been reintegrated to a partner organisation closer to her family while still in a safe community. When she first arrived at the home, she was quiet and reserved but has since learned to step out of her shell and find healing and a restored sense of confidence. She has also been learning how to sew at a vocational school. Her mother is supportive of her learning to sew and developing new vocational skills. Sotheavy* is excited to be close to her family and visit more regularly.
We are going to miss Sotheavy as she has been lovely to have in the home and is always happy to help the other girls when they need it.
sUPPORT OF THE NEXT THREE YEARS
The vocational sewing program Sotheavy* has been accepted into will take her 18 months to complete. While there, she has the opportunity to learn and practice in a professional sewing shop in the village. We will continue to empower and educate her and her siblings on how to keep themselves safe. We are very excited for her and proud of how far she has come!
